About the Day of Action

Thursday November 13th will mark five years and one day after the United States signed the Kyoto Protocol to curb greenhouse gas emissions. In the wake of a total failure of our government to respond to the challenges of climate change, air pollution, and community degradation resulting from our current energy systems, students from more than 50 schools around the country are organizing for a massive National Day of Action for Clean Energy Campuses.

Remember to check back to this website on the Day of Action and fill out the online form to publicize the actions that you took. Cool the climate! Squelch the smog! Abolish acid rain! Defend our communities! Join today's youth in creating a power shift towards energy justice!

I'm ready to act! What do I do?

Well, because every clean energy campaign has different goals, different targets, and different tactics, groups are taking action on November 13th in a variety of different ways. The type of action you take is up to you and your group. Be creative! The size of the action is not important. The important thing is for everyone to take action on the same day to show everybody the power students have around the country to make change!

Some Action Ideas
  • Do a teach-in or forum on campus to build awareness about where your energy is coming from.
  • Present or pass a student referendum for clean energy on that day
  • Have a dorm-on-dorm competition for energy efficiency that week and publicize the results that day.
  • Meet with your school president or administrators to discuss the possibilities of getting clean energy on campus.
  • Publicize the youth movement for clean energy in your local and school papers.
  • Set up an exhibit of facts and fancy alternatives to dirty energy
  • Perform creative street theater to raise awareness about energy consumption and alternatives.
  • Set up a table and hand out fact sheets to students in a popular area
  • Have a blitz petitioning session on that day and pass out bright sunshine stickers to everyone who signs
