Militarism and the Environment - Take Action
The environmental activist community must no longer remain silent on the issue of militarism. We must recognize and organize around the destructiveness of military activities and cultivate a renewed environmental peace movement. The Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC), in collaboration with numerous other grassroots organizations, is standing up to the "military-industrial-entertainment-complex," and demanding a future free of state-sponsored violence and environmental destruction.
Help Us:
No War No Warming
Learn about the amazing October action. Join folks making the connection between war and global warming on the anniversary of the war this March 18-19, 2008 at www.nowarnowarming.org
Resist military toxics
Communities around the world are experiencing a decreased quality of life as a result of the destructive and polluting activities of the world’s militaries. We must make military institutions accountable to the same environmental protection, worker safety, and public health laws as other institutions. SEAC is helping to monitor legislation that affects military toxics issues and is working to connect with grassroots struggles against military toxics.
End the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction
ALL nations of the world must come into compliance with the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and embrace an international framework for the immediate dismantling of all weapons of mass destruction. SEAC opposes the “nuclear revival” taking place throughout the world and is pressuring the U.S. government to make real strides towards disarmament. Let’s put discussion of nuclear weapons issues back on the national agenda through endorsing the Urgent Call to End Nuclear Danger http://youth.urgentcall.org and taking part in direct action in communities where nuclear weapons are being researched, produced, tested, and stored.
Take back our campuses
Our high school and college campuses belong to us. Their activities should benefit society at large, not the military-industrial complex. We can work in solidarity with other students around the world to make our campuses military-free zones through endowment fund divestment from weapons-makers, ending campus-based research that leads to weapons-production, opposing the use of our campuses as recruiting/indoctrination grounds for the military, affecting our campuses’ purchasing policies, and influencing the composition of our Boards of Regents.
