Unsafe Water in Southern West Vriginia
This past Sunday evening February the 10th as people from Prenter Hollow came home from Sunday school they noticed the overwhelming smell of diesel fuel coming from creek. The Dept. of Environmental Protection(DEP) Emergency Spill Hotline was called and the incident was reported, that was around 8:00pm.One woman actually waded through the water to collect samples of cloudy water. This stench was a "knock you down smell" as one resident said.
The DEP deferred to the Racine fire dept. who came to the Seth Bridge, didn't notice anything and left; after they were contacted and notified that the spill was water related and not an air release, they said they couldn't do anything. Folks from laurel creek urged them to contact the DEP to send an inspector out. No such response was issued.
Multiple people phoned into 911 to report the spill and there was no response from the Boone county sheriff's office to come and at least acknowledge there was a spill.
There was NO RESPONSE to the Diesel Spill on Laurel Creek of big coal river near Seth,WV.
The residence on Laurel Creek use well water, and the Racine PSD in the vicinity is used for municipal drinking water.
This is an act of abuse and at the moment i'm trying to think whats worst, the damage to the streams and potentially the surface aquifers that supply the people their water in Prenter Hollow or the continual efforts to cushion the coal industry by the state Dept. of Environmental Protection, who is "promoting a safe environment" for the bank accounts of coal companies.
