A Tampaction Thank You

A big thank you to the folks in Fayetteville, WV and Guilford College in NC for organizing the time and space for our workshops. Both workshops had a strong group of participants in attendance. We really enjoy the support and willingness of people to embrace and share the information we give them. Thank you all for helping Tampaction grow!

And here are some pictures from our Guilford College workshop taken by Emma Deutsch.

TampAction hits Fayetteville WV

Yesterday SEAC brought the enlightening eco-feminist concepts of TampAction to Fayetteville West Virginia. About a dozen rad women gathered at the New River Inn where lunch was provided and a silent auction fundraiser was set up.

The workshop began with a Step Out exercise to show how the oppression of women fits into larger systems of oppression. We then discussed the dangers of using tampons and the many alternatives that exist. The workshop ended with a discussion about total body health for women, including herbal remedies and self exams. As always, the TampAction workshop rocked!

After the workshop we partied down SEAC-style by hangin out, sharing stories, making plans, and sewing pads. We also made some TampAction T-shirts with cardboard stencils and spraypaint.

Campaign Summary

"Tamp" because tampons are a huge part of the Industry oppressing menstrators. "Action" because we are taking action against this Industry. We are dismantling the taboo surrounding menstruation by raising awareness about the havoc the feminine hygiene industry wreaks on menstruators’ health, the environment, and the communities into which tampon and disposable pad factories dump toxic waste. You are now joining many other menstrual activists in taking this campaign to a new level, one in which we will transform some of the very institutions which support the destructive tampon industry—our campuses—into places which foster positive attitudes towards menstruation and promote environmentally responsible alternatives to bleached, one-time-use tampons and pads.
